DreamHack Denver 2017 is the fourth esports event, where avid gamers meet to play video games over three days.
DreamHack is heading to Sweden December 1st through the 4th, and, as always, they’ll have more than a few esports events that spectators will surely enjoy. DreamHack has a long history of crafting some of the biggest and most exciting esports events. Whether you’re a Hearthstone fan, a Super Smash Bros. head, or a Counter-Strike lover, DreamHack always offers something to watch. With several hundred thousand tournaments taking place throughout the weekend, people will be tuning in from all across the world to see what goes down. A lucky few will even get to watch from inside the event hall.
Of course, where there is fanfare, there is esports betting. A diligent member of the esports community may already be aware of the events that are taking place at DreamHack Winter 2017, but this article is for those who aren’t. With seven events lined up throughout the weekend, this article will break down the facts you need to know for each one. I’ll cover everything that we know so far and make some speculations about the events based on recent history. With the event so close, we still don’t know much but at the very least you’ll learn what’s going on and when to log into your favorite esports betting website.
DreamHack Astro Open
Beginning at 11:40 AM CET and running almost straight through until the Grand Final at 5 PM CET on Sunday, this Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament is one of the main events of the weekend. Eight teams have been invited from all over the world to battle for a total prize payout of $100,000. The teams will play Friday and Saturday split into two groups of four. The two teams with the best record will duke it out at 4 PM CET on Saturday to decide who will be the first and second seed. They will then proceed to the semifinals at 12 PM CET Sunday, with the winning teams heading to the Grand Finals.
The following teams are set to appear:
- BIG
- Gambit Esports
- Heroic
- Mousesports
- Natus Vincere
- Team EnVyUs
- North Academy
- Rise Nation
Having just one their qualifiers, North Academy and Rise Nation are certainly aimed for the finals. That said, these matches all look like they’ll be close. DreamHack has put together a group of teams that are all accomplished and competition will be fierce. Clear favorites may emerge Friday, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Dream League Season 8 Finals
Little is finalized about this tournament, but that doesn’t change the fact that it will be an exciting conclusion to DreamHack’s Dota 2 League. We know that there will be a total of over a million dollars on the line, however, DreamHack has not announced exactly when the tournament will be taking place. Additionally, the tournament’s format is not finalized either. Currently, DreamHack is favoring a double elimination, best of three format.
Only four teams have been confirmed for the event so to pick winners now would be silly. With each team having gone through so much to get here, this tournament will likely look like the ASTRO Open. Close matches make for exciting games but no safe bets.
Quake Championships Invitational
Putting $350,000 on the line, DreamHack has paired with Bethesda to add an event for their most recent breakthrough game to the roster. Taking place alongside the DreamHack Astro Open, this event will begin at 10 AM CET on Friday and the final will take place at 5:15 PM CET on Sunday. 24 players in total will compete. 8 of these will be invited, with another 16 qualifying through online play. Another team event will take place alongside the duel tournament, though information about this is less available. While all places are not locked in, reigning champion Raisy has been invited back. It will be exciting to see if he can retain or if he will be gunned down by a hungry newcomer.
H1Z1 Elite Series
Like the Quake Championships, this event will have a duel league and a team league. A grand total of $150,000 will be on the line. Qualifiers will take place at 12 PM – 3 PM CET for single players and 5 PM – 8 PM CET for teams on both Friday and Saturday. Finals will then occur at 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM for single players and 3 PM – 6 PM CET for teams. Unfortunately, we have no player information at this time, so I can’t help you there.
DreamHack Hearthstone Grand Prix
$25,000 is on the line for 200+ players in this entry of the DreamHack Hearthstone Grand Prix series. While I can’t say for certain who will be there, I can say that this will be an exciting tournament for viewers. With the meta having finally settled down from the most recent set release, players will be relying on skill more than deckbuilding to take the win. Tournaments like this are always great for spectators as they tend to be packed with tense moments and great plays.

DreamHack Smash Championship
An open event, the DreamHack Smash Championship is putting $10,000 on the line for anybody who feels up to the challenge. More casual than other tournaments that are taking place, the DreamHack Smash Championship will surely have its fair share of exciting moments. No schedule has been set for the tournament yet and no player information is available due to the nature of an open event.
Nordic Championship
With three games and 300,000 Swedish krona on the line, this event will bring together the best players from the Nordic region to compete in several events. Player information is being finalized now and you can get updates from the Nordic Championship website. DreamHack will be hosting the Grand Finals, though there is no current information on when those will take place at the event.
